    Rock Revival is Here!

    July 12, 2018 / No Comments

It’s a bit late in the day over here, but the day is not quite over. Today, Rock Revival makes its way into the world. It’s hard to encapsulate just what it feels like to put a book out like this. Technically, it’s my second published novel, but it’s my first non-genre novel, so it’s a bit like starting all over again. Genre has been very good to me, but I can’t say it’s all of me. Music has been such a deep, essential part of my life for so long, and I wanted to write this book to bring to life what I felt was a plausible story — not…

    Wiscon 42 Bound!

    May 22, 2018 / No Comments

Now that my kids are officially out of diapers and sincerely easier to manage, I can finally start attending more than local conventions. One of the first ones on my list was Wiscon, not just because of its stellar reputation but also because it’s a feminist science fiction and fantasy convention. When I got a look at the programming I was in a very happy place. After panel after panel after panel in the last eight years or so, I’ve come to expect certain themes. It’s so refreshing to see panels of a different sort! I’m also thrilled to hear the guests of honor, Saladin Ahmed, and Tananarive Due. I’m on…

    Introducing the Zegedine!

    May 20, 2018 / No Comments

What’s that? Well, a zegedine is a drinking cup. But it’s also my (mostly) weekly newsletter. Hello, Natania. Is this 2001? No, clearly it’s not. So why would I bother with a newsletter? A couple of reasons. These days I have a lot more time to post bobbles and bits together than I do to write long, rambling posts about how to write. Lord knows I’ve done enough of those in the ten-odd years I’ve been blogging. The truth is I know how my writing career has gone, and while some of those posts might be helpful, I’m not so sure it’s my best focus. Secondly, well, I’m a many-armed…

    Where Hath April Fled?

    April 25, 2018 / No Comments

April has a certain literary weight to it, doesn’t it? Regardless of what Chaucer or Eliot thought, one thing is clear: April has come and gone too fast for my liking. This in-between month has lived up to its reputation here in North Carolina, however, and we’ve had lots of rain and a very cool spring. The skies finally cleared today and it’s been a bright afternoon, crisp and blue-skied, with the promise of more to come. My first cosmo bloomed. I’ve been cataloguing wildflowers in the forest. Writing has been going well. A few weeks ago I finished the first draft of Glassmere. For those who might not remember, it’s…

    My Illogicon 2018 Schedule!

    January 7, 2018 / No Comments

I am so excited to attend Illogicon again this year. It’s seriously one of my favorites. Okay, probably my favorite (sorry everyone else). I have the pleasure of being on 8 different bits of programming with some seriously awesome humans, many of whom I count as dear. If you’re in Raleigh next weekend, be sure to swing by! And if you’re planning on attending, be sure to check out the whole list! Also, if you haven’t purchased my books yet there will be plenty on hand! And my reading will include some fun sneak peeks.   Friday – 7pm Turn Anything into an RPG! – Reynolds Have you ever had…

    The Sound of October Revival

    January 5, 2018 / No Comments

One of the things I’m most excited about regarding 2018 is the release of Rock Revival. The book took shape about 5 years ago, right after the birth of my daughter. No, it’s not a genre book. Yes, I’m usually a genre writer, but to be quite honest I’ve never seen myself as a genre writer exclusively. It’s just how things have mostly shaken out. Music is a huge part of my life. It always has been. I’m lucky to have grown up in recording studios and always surrounded by the sounds of people singing, playing guitars, and plugging in amplifiers. Both my sister and I have been singing Beatles…
